Letter written to the Hongkong Superintendent of the Messageries Maritimes Cie. asking him if he can make arrangements for the vessels to remain in port for the 18 hours of daylight suggested by the Post Master General and stating that it would also be a convenience if they could stop off Green Island before proceeding to anchorage.
July 14th, 1899. The Agent of the Messageries Maritimes Cie. writes to say that he has referred the contents of above letter to his administrators.
July 18th, 1899. Further letter from the Post Master General giving additional evidence in connection with the S.S. "Oceanien" as to the unsatisfactory arrangements at present existing, and the inconvenience caused to the public through not being given sufficient time to answer their correspondence.
